Holiday Gift Guides Make Christmas Shopping Easier

Last weekend before Christmas and you’re not yet done with holiday shopping?

Yule comes only once a year, so aside from a loved one’s birthday, the season provides one of the few opportunities to make someone smile through specially-wrapped boxes. Oh what a joy it will bring if you can come up with perfect holiday presents! These days, the quickest way to someone’s heart is the gift of some electronic toy or gadget. You play Santa around friends and family members, making them feel more special by crossing out a techie item on their wish lists. But of course, it’s given that wishes can pile up and there you are, figuring out what to get for them….without stretching the budget too far!

Thank heavens—filled with a number of great picks and savings—gift guides are always a shopper’s best friend. Not only do they make Christmas shopping easier but they also help you save time and money. Often, items are sorted according to the gender of recipients, interests or price ranges. Some guides would go as far as listing gift ideas based on categories. Scrolling on them is easy too—especially if you got your lists handy. The ideal way to maximize the use of these gift guides is to have a pen ready and make up your mind in advance on what purchases to make. While iPods, Mac computers, cameras and other tech stuffs are sure to be hit ideas, it would be cool also to try cute stuffs like digital photo key chains, USB flash drives or E-Book readers.

Simply put, gift guides pop the idea that indeed, ‘tis the season to shop…and save! The happier news is, there’s still time for you to make the wishes of those you hold so dear come true! This weekend, wake up early and hit your local retail store so you can put an end to your unfinished business—HOLIDAY SHOPPING, that is! You don’t need to go too far, there is always one near you.

Guide to Computer Speakers: What to Look for when Buying Computer Speakers

Planning to buy a pair of computer speakers? Know what features to look for so you can be sure to buy the best speakers for your computer.

Unlike any other computer hardware and parts, looking for a pair of good, high-quality computer speakers is fairly easy. You don’t have to visit each Apple store in Santa Monica just to get one that will perfectly match your desktop or laptop. Truth is, as long as you know the essential features that you need for you speakers, buying a pair will never be a sweat,

So, here’s a guide to computer speakers so you could easily identify what features to look for when buying a pair or two.

3D-Sound: If the sound card of your computer is capable of 3D-sound, you may want to get a four- to six-speaker setup. This should provide superb sounds that make you r music come to life. A 3D-sound is also perfect for computer games with heavy effects.

Subwoofer: Are you the type of music lover who wants to hear the sound of the songs fully and flatteringly? For the extended bass sound, make sure to get a subwoofer along with the computer speakers you purchase.

Corded or Wireless: While most computer speakers still make use of a standard power cord, there are models that are already wireless and make use of batteries instead. While battery-operated speakers are more portable and flexible, it is still much more functional and practical to get the corded ones for better power and performance.

Volume Control: Make sure that your speakers have a volume control that is easy to access and use. This would give you control over the volume without managing it from your PC or laptop.

Style: While the appearance or style of the computer speakers are not really as important as other technical features, you may still want to consider it, especially if you are going to match it with your computer or laptop. Will they be too big for your laptop or too small for your desktop? Is there enough space on your work table? What color of speakers would look good on your computer?

Keeping these guidelines in mind, you can be sure of which pair or set of computer speakers to purchase. Whether they’re from the Apple store or any other computer shop, and no matter which brand name they use, as long as they have the features that you are looking for, then they will definitely be perfect for your computer or laptop.

MacBook Care: Keeping Your MacBook in Top Shape and Good Condition

Learn how to take care of your MacBook. Follow these guidelines on how to keep your MacBook in top shape and good condition!

Your MacBook may be one of the best investments you’ll ever have. With the power, functionality, and portability it provides, there’s nothing else you’ll need when it comes to computing and staying connected. As soon as you bought one from the Apple store, you will see the endless possibilities it offers.

However, it is not enough that you simply own one. Keeping your MacBook in top shape and good condition is just as important. Make sure that you take proper care of your MacBook to maximize its functions and capabilities.

Below are some simple but significant ways on how to keep your MacBook in the best condition and make it last through the years.
  1. Regularly clean your MacBook display. Wipe away dust and dirt off it for best viewing experience. To do this, make sure that your MacBook is properly shut down, the power is unplugged, and battery has been taken out. Then, with a clean, soft, and slightly damped cloth, wipe the screen gently. Never spray any liquid directly on the MacBook’s screen.
  2. In cleaning the exterior of your MacBook, use a clean, soft, and slightly damped cloth, as well. Wipe dust and dirt off the keyboard, cover, and the base of your laptop in a gentle and moderate pace. Never use solvents, aerosol sprays, or any chemical liquid in cleaning your MacBook.
  3. Carry your MacBook gently and carefully. Place it in a secure bag with padded sleeves so that it won’t get scratched or damaged. Also, make sure that there are no loose items in the bag that could accidentally get stuck on your laptop computer.
  4. Take care of the battery of your MacBook by not overcharging it. Moreover, drain the battery once in a while to fully maximize its use. If you will not use your MacBook for a long period of time, make sure to store it in a secure place with its battery unplugged.
Save yourself from trips to the Apple store whenever your MacBook gets damaged and needs to be fixed. If you take care of your MacBook and keep it in its best condition, you can be sure to use it for a long period of time.

From PC to Mac: Switching to a Mac System

Before switching from a PC to a Mac system, make sure that you know these simple functions that might come in handy when you’re already working on your Mac computer.

Are you a PC user for so long that you think switching to a Mac computer would just be plain impossible? Well, nothing’s impossible, right? So as soon as you have bought your new Mac system from the Apple store and when you’re ready to switch from PC to a Mac, you have to keep in mind a few simple things to help you get through the adjustment period.

Though it’s relatively easy to find your way through a Mac, you may want to read about the following tips that would save you a minute or two in exploring the new system.

Finding the Start Menu

Remember: There is NO Start button and menu on a Mac system. Instead, you use the Finder window in navigating through your applications and browsing over your documents. You can also place the apps that you frequently use in the system Dock for easy access and use. You can then place the Dock at the bottom or either side of the screen.

Right-Clicking on Mac

If you have the Apple mouse which is designed with one button only, then it wouldn’t really allow you to right click, would it? To perform the right click function using the Apple mouse, you hold down the control key and then click the mouse button. This should open a context menu just like in Windows. You may also simply use a mouse with two buttons, and then do the usual right clicking.

Searching for Files and Applications

If you’ve been so used to the easy searching of files and programs with the Windows-based search function, then you won’t find it difficult to search your files and apps on Mac using Spotlight. It has a blue icon that is located at the upper right part of the screen. To search for e-mails, applications, filenames, file contents, contacts, and even metadata, simply click the icon and type in a phrase. It’s as simple as that!

Using the C: Drive

With a Mac, you won’t have to go back to the archaic way of digging files from the C: drive. Find all your files using the Finder on your Mac. If you’re a hard-core administrator, you can also use the Terminal app for some Unix action.

Knowing the HOT Keys on Mac

Notice first the command key on your Mac keyboard. It is the key with a little 4 leaf clover image located immediately to left and right of the spacebar. It functions similarly to the control key of a system that works on Windows. Most shortcuts or hot keys on Mac make use of the command key, so it’s better that you familiarize yourself with the common command keyboard shortcuts:
  • To delete a file, please the command key + backspace.
  • To copy a file, press the command key + C.
  • To paste a file, press the command key + V.
  • To create a new file, press the command key + N.
  • To print a file, press the command key + P.
  • To quit an application, press the command key +Q.
It’s never really challenging to switch from PC to Mac. Of course, there will always be a room for adjustment, but as soon as you get a grip of how the Mac system works, you can easily work your way out. So start setting up that Mac computer you purchased from the Apple store and see the difference!

MacBook Energy Saver Tips: Conserving the Battery of your MacBook

Want to save the battery of your MacBook? Learn how to conserve the battery of your MacBook by following these guidelines on configuring the Energy Saver mode.

If you want to conserve the battery of your MacBook and want to make it last longer than usual, change the settings of your MacBook to Energy Saver mode. To do this, follow the step by step guide given below. This should conserve the battery of your MacBook, especially when you are out and away from any power outlet:
  1. At the top right of your screen, you will see a battery gauge. Click on it.
  2. As the menu displays, select which Apple energy setting you want to use. And because you want to conserve the battery of your Macbook and get its longest life, choose the Better Energy Savings option.
  3. If you want to customize the configuration of your MacBook’s Energy Settings, click on Open Energy Saver, still from the menu displayed. The Energy Saver preference window will then open.
  4. From the Settings for: dropdown menu, choose Battery to allow energy settings configuration whenever you use your MacBook on battery power.
  5. From the Optimization dropdown menu, choose Custom. The window should expand and display more preferences to configure.
  6. On the Sleep tab, you will see two sliders – one allows you to set the time before the computer is put to sleep, while the other allows you to set the time before the display is put to sleep. As a general rule, the shorter the time you set for both sliders (or the more to the left you set the slider), the longer life the battery of your MacBook gets.
  7. Also, check the box that says ‘Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible’ to conserve power.
  8. On the Options tab, choose more options that will increase the battery life of your MacBook. Check the boxes that say:
    • Slightly dim the display when using this power source.
    • Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep
  9. For more ways to conserve the battery life of your MacBook, you can manually reduce its brightness using the F1 on the keyboard, especially when you don’t need too much lighting on your screen. Also, make sure to turn off Wi-fi, Bluetooth, and other networking features of your MacBook when not in use.
Keeping these guidelines in mind, you should be able to conserve the battery of your MacBook and use it for hours. Remember, it is always best to care for your laptop’s battery to maintain its functional performance so that you won’t have to have it repaired on Apple stores every time it gets damaged due to improper use or overuse.

Apple iPod Care: Safety Measures for your iPod Touch

Learn how to observe proper safety measures for your iPod Touch.

Have you just bought your iPod Touch from the Apple store? Do you want to preserve its function, elegance, and style? Then you have to take extra care in handling your iPod Touch and make sure to observe proper safety measures so it would last a long, long time.

Below are some safety measures for your iPod Touch that you may want to keep in mind so you can save trips to the Apple care center and avoid unnecessary repairs:
  1. Right after purchasing an iPod Touch from the Apple store or any authorized resellers, immediately buy a screen protector and a silicone or leather case for it. Make sure that these protectors fit snugly on your iPod Touch to offer maximum protection.
  2. Avoid dropping your iPod touch, especially to hard surfaces like the floor or the ground. To avoid this, never put your iPod on the side pocket of your pants or on your lap that might cause its fall when you stand up.
  3. Never put your iPod at the back pocket of your pants as you may accidentally sit on it and cause breakage of the screen. Similarly, avoid leaving it on the couch or chair where somebody might sit on.
  4. Drain the battery of your iPod Touch at least once a month. This would maximize its battery life. Moreover, make sure not to overcharge it as this might reduce its performance.
  5. To save battery life, especially when you are using your IPod touch in a place where you can’t easily charge its battery, turn off the Wi-fi connection and Bluetooth setting when not it use.
  6. Store your iPod Touch in a room under normal temperature. Extreme coldness or hotness may damage the functions of your gadget. Similarly, do not expose your iPod into water, fire, ice, and the likes.
  7. When using or plugging accessories to your iPod Touch, such as speakers or headphones, make sure they are compatible and functional to ensure safety of your gadget.
  8. When you notice that there is a malfunction or there is something wrong with your iPod, go to the nearest Apple store and have it checked and fixed right away. If you still have the warranty, you can use it so they can fix your iPod for free or replace it with a brand new one.
Remember that every gadget you spend money on can be an investment for the future. Make sure to appropriately handle your electronic devices and observe proper safety measures so you can take advantage of them for a long period of time.

MacBook Upgrade 101: Your Guide to Upgrading your MacBook

There are two essential parts in a MacBook that can be upgraded depending on your preference. When upgrading your MacBook, you can either upgrade the hard disk or the RAM of your Mac laptop.

Here is very simplistic guide to upgrading your MacBook’s hard drive:
  1. Remove the battery of your MacBook by turning its grasp 90 degrees from its original position. In doing this, you may use a coin or any strong flat material.
  2. Remove the hard drive from your MacBook by pulling the white plastic tab attached to it to the right.
  3. Place into the cradle the replacement hard drive for your MacBook that you bought from an Apple store. You would need a Torx T9 screwdriver to be able to do this.
  4. Push the drive into the compartment and cradle it fitly. Make sure that the label is facing down to ensure that it on proper placement.
  5. Finally, place back the battery and turn on your newly upgraded MacBook!
Now, here is a basic guide to upgrading your MacBook’s RAM:
  1. Take off the battery of your MacBook just like how it was described above.
  2. From the back wall of the battery compartment of your MacBook, remove the three Philips screws that are evenly spaced from one another.
  3. Remove the L-shaped metal cover by lifting it and pulling gently to the right.
  4. Pull the metal lever back on and remove the RAM chip from your MacBook by sliding it out from the compartment.
  5. To insert the new RAM, slide it until it is fitly seated. If you have a second RAM, do the same. It wouldn’t matter which comes first and last as long as they are cradled in properly.
  6. Do not use force in removing and inserting the RAM because it may damage not only the RAM chip, but the MacBook, as well.
  7. Finally, to finish the upgrade, put back the L-shaped metal cover and the screws, and then insert the battery. You now have a newly upgraded MacBook!
So, when you feel that your MacBook isn’t performing its best anymore, you don’t have to spend another thousand bucks to replace it with a new one from the Apple store. You can always simply upgrade its RAM or hard drive or both, depending on your needs.

Advanced Keyboard Features: The Keyboard of the Future is Finally Here!

Have you always thought the keyboard on your PC is boring? Well, thanks to technology, the keyboard of the future has arrived just in time for your typing and computing needs.

What does the keyboard of the future actually look like, anyway? Below are the amazing features of an advanced keyboard that you may want to buy from Apple stores and connect to your Mac or PC to bring the future right in front of you!

Advanced Lighting System: The modern keyboards feature an advanced lighting system that will help you see the keys easier, especially when you are working in the dark or inside a poorly lit room. Designed with a high intensity EL backlights, they are perfect for LAN party gaming and evening computer jobs.

Wireless Technology: Wireless keyboards feature no cable or cord that would connect it to your CPU. Instead, they are designed with Bluetooth, Infra Red (IR), or radio frequency (RF) technology that will create the “invisible” connection from the keyboard to the computer. This type of keyboards is great when you don’t want any loose cable on your desk and is helpful in storing the external accessories of your computer.

Ultrathin Design: While ordinary keyboards are relatively thin, the modern ones are thinner, sleeker, and more portable, perfect for laptops and small computers that you have to carry along from one place to another. With their incredibly thin design, these modern keyboards allow smooth and quiet typing as keys are designed shorter and closer to one another.

Wrist-Rest Surface: A lot of current keyboards nowadays have this feature, allowing the users to rest their wrist and minimize tiredness or pain while typing. Generally, the wrist-rest surface of these keyboards is coated in a matte rubber surface, providing an anti-slip and slightly soft texture for the wrists.

Touch Disc System: Some modern keyboards are designed with a touch disc system that allows you to easily and dynamically scroll over your computer screen. It is like a tracker or touch pad of the mouse that is built-in on your keyboard.

Some keyboards are designed with all these features, while others may only have one or a few. Of course, be reminded that the more technological features there are in a keyboard, the more expensive it is. But then again, a high-quality keyboard bought from the Apple store could be a very great investment for your different typing and computing needs.

So, what are you waiting for? Head out to your nearest Apple store or computer shop and bring the future right at the palm of your hands.

External Storage Explained: All You Need to Know about External Storage Systems

Learn the basic types of external storage so that you know what to get in case you need one.

External storage systems are devices that are not permanently fixed inside the computer but can store files for later use. They are designed to be plugged in or inserted into the computer to function. Some examples of external storage devices are CD, flash drives, and external hard disk drives.

For a more elaborate explanation of the types of external storage devices, take a quick look on the following items:

External Hard Disk Drive (HDD)

External hard disk drives are portable, removable drives that you can carry along with you to store files or transfer files from one computer to another. They are often designed with a USB port where one end of a USB cable is to be plugged in, while the other end is to be connected to the computer.

Advantages: They are portable and usually come in large memory size.
Disadvantages: They are generally costly and are big enough not to fit into small pockets.

USB Flash Drive

USB flash drives are small storage devices that you plug into a computer’s USB port to function. After that, you can easily store and transfer files from and to the computer. They come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes and are available in Apple stores and computer shops.

Advantages: They are very portable that you can keep it inside your pocket, and are generally affordable.
Disadvantages: Most USB flash drives can only hold up to 8GB of data files. With their small size, they can easily be misplaced.

Zip Drive

Zip drives are disk drives that make use of removable Zip disks in storing large sizes of data. They look like a floppy disk drive, but what you insert is a zip disk and not a floppy disk. Zip disks are thicker and heavier than floppy disks.

Advantages: They offer a wide range of storage options and include backup options. They are portable, as well.
Disadvantages: They are generally costly and require investment, both in the hardware and the zip disks.

CD-RW and CD-RW Drive

A CR-RW is a readable and writable compact disc. By writable, it means that data can be stored through it through the process called “data burning”. To be able to burn data into a CD, a CD-RW drive is required.

Advantages: CD-RW disks can be used repeatedly, meaning you can use just one disk and overwrite data in it. They are relatively inexpensive and very portable.
Disadvantages: Most CD-RW disks can hold up to 700MB of data only. Moreover, to be able to store data in a CD-RW disk, your computer must have a compatible drive first.

DVD-RW and DVD-RW Drive

DVD-RW works the same as CD-RWs, where data can be stored and burned through DVDs using a DVD-RW drive. DVD-RW disks, however, can carry larger amount of data and produce greater quality.

Advantages: They offer more flexibility as they burn twice as fast and as efficient as CD burners. They store up to a few MB of data. Finally, they are also portable and easy to use.
Disadvantages: You can only burn data in a DVD-RW if your computer comes with a DVD-RW drive.

You actually have a lot of choices when it comes to external storage devices. While each has its own advantages and disadvantages, you are sure that one or two can actually provide you with your digital storage needs. Purchase one at your favorite Apple store or computer shop and start organizing your digital stuffs! ;)

Maximize the Battery Life of Your MacBook Pro

Nothing is more frustrating than using your MacBook Pro outside the home or the office only to find out that your battery is fast draining because you have actually overused or misused it. What if you have a presentation to do or an emergency email you have to send out and the battery of your MacBook Pro just died down? What are you going to do? Remember, not always will there be an Apple store around the corner where you can get a replacement battery.

Learn how to maximize the battery life of you MacBook Pro so that you won’t have to worry about it again, especially when you are somewhere without an electric socket! Below are some tips you should keep in mind when working with your MacBook Pro to prolong its battery life.
  1. Every time you turn on your MacBook Pro, make sure that its battery is fully charged.
  2. During Software Updates installation, keep them running as these updates sometimes improve the life of your MacBook Pro’s battery.
  3. Once in a while, discharge the battery of your MacBook Pro – about once a month should be enough. Run it until it shuts down or outs itself to sleep. Then when the battery is already drained, plug the MacBook Pro to recharge.
  4. Make sure that you use and store your MacBook Pro under recommended room temperature which is between 50 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Anywhere higher or lower than these temperatures might damage not only the battery, but your MacBook Pro, as well.
  5. To minimize battery usage, keep the brightness level of your MacBook Pro to a minimum. The brighter the screen is, the more power the battery consumes. Also, turn off the backlight on your keyboard by using the F5 key to minimize power consumption.
  6. Turn off the Bluetooth function on your MacBook Pro when you are not using it as it uses a lot of power. To turn off Bluetooth, Open System Preferences, click on Bluetooth, and mark as uncheck the box next to “ON”.
  7. Turn off or disable AirPort (Wi-Fi function) when you are not using it. To turn it off, Open System Preferences, click on Network, and click on the Turn AirPort Off button.
  8. If you will keep your MacBook Pro plugged in or stored for a long period of time, it is best to remove the battery. In storing the battery, keep it under room temperature and away from heat to prolong its life.
While you can always have a replacement for your damaged or dead MacBook Pro battery from Apple stores, it is still best to preserve and prolong its life to avoid any more hassles. By keeping in mind these simple but important safety tips, you can be sure that the battery of your MacBook Pro will last long.

They are available in consumer electronics shop such as the Apple store and the likes.

How does a GPS work?

GPS units work by receiving information from GPS satellites that circle the earth in specific frequency. These satellites transmit information to the earth through the GPS unit or receiver, using triangulation to calculate and identify the exact location of the user. GPS receivers also compute and compare the time when the signals were transmitted and received, and such time difference also helps in locating the user’s exact position. GPS units feature a screen that serves as an electronic map where the user’s location is to be shown.

Major types of GPS

Below are the major types of GPS receivers:

1. Portable GPS. This type of GPS units is portable enough to be carried along while traveling by foot or car. However, it is not small enough to be kept inside the pocket. It typically measures 4 inches wide and weighs about 10 ounces.

2. Pocket GPS. This type of GPS unit is designed to fit inside the pocket of pants or shirt. It weight about 5 ounces, with a screen that measures 3.5 inches. It typically costs more than the portable units because of its small, slim, and lightweight feature.

3. In-Dash GPS. This type of GPS unit is built into the automobile’s dash board. It is not meant to be carried along, thus adding security to the unit and avoiding loss. More and more automobile companies offer built-in GPS units on the cars and vehicles they are selling.

4. Fitness and Cycling GPS. This type of GPS unit is especially created for people who walk, jog, run, or ride the bicycle. It is designed to fit snuggly on the wrist, just like a wrist watch. Aside from the navigation feature of the device, it can also track the athlete’s pace, distance, speed, and even calories burned.

5. Motorcycle GPS. This type of GPS unit is almost the same as that of used in cars, but is designed to fit on motorcycle consoles, waterproof, and vibration resistant. Most units come with Bluetooth hands-free technology feature.

6. Marine GPS. This type of GPS unit is specifically designed for marine use and comes with plotting functionality. It is equipped with special marine database and navigational aids such as sound signals, buoys, and day beacons among others.

Buying External Hard Drives: What to Look for in an External Hard Drive

Planning to buy an external hard disk drive for your computer? Wait and learn first the important things that you need to look for when choosing one.

Adding extra storage space to your computer may seem as easy as it sound. Right, there is thousands of external hard disk drive that you may take advantage of and satisfy you with your storage needs.

Buying external hard drives from an Apple store, however, is more than just checking the brand name or purchasing the one with the most affordable cost. There are a few important things that need to be consider when buying an external hard drive,

Below is a list of what you need to look for in an external hard drive to be able to get the most out of your additional storage:

Capacity: In order to decide about the capacity of the external hard drive that that you’ll buy, identify first to which you’ll be using the drive for and how much extra memory to you actually need. Will you be using the external hard drive to store permanent data files? Or will you be using it just a temporary back-up for transferring files? For permanent data storage, you may opt for an external drive with a large capacity, about 300GB. Otherwise, for simple file transfers only, you may not need so much space.

Cache Size: Cache size refers to the speed of the external hard drive to copy the files from the source computer to it. As a general rule, the higher the cache size or memory of an external drive, the faster it transfers files from the source to the storage and vice versa. If transfer speed is of significance to you, then you might as well get one with a large cache size. However, note that external hard drives with a lot of space for cache memory usually cost more expensive in an Apple store.

Connectivity: External hard drives can be connected to your computer or laptop primarily in 2 ways, namely through the use of USB port and cable, or though the Firewire port and cable. While some external drives offer both connectivity – thus giving more flexibility for the users –, others come in only one of the two options. In this regard, choose a Firewire connectivity if you want quicker and faster file transfer rate, assuming your computer has a built-in Firewire port in it. Otherwise, go with a USB connectivity that is most likely compatible to all computers and laptops. Again, for added flexibility, you may opt for an external hard drive that is designed with both connectivity options.

Remember, before buying an external hard drive for your Mac or PC from an Apple store, it is always best to know what exactly you need. External hard drives will not always be about the manufacturer, the brand name, or the price! Most of the time, you have to evaluate the more important stuffs such as capacity, connectivity, and cache size.

Mac or PC: Would You Rather Buy a Mac or a PC?

Having problem deciding which computer unit to buy? Know if you’re for a Mac or a Pc by studying these important features of both the Mac and the PC systems.

At one point in our life, we will have to face the question about which computing system should we buy, a Mac or a PC? The fact that you got interested in this article and you started reading only shows that you are among the many confused consumers who haven’t made up their minds yet whether they should purchase a Mac computer or a PC.

To answer this ultimate question that could bug our minds for days, weeks, or even years, we have to justify clearly why you should buy a Mac, why you should buy a PC, and why you have to choose between the two. Ready? Here goes:

Why You Should Buy a Mac Computer?

True, Mac products are generally expensive in price – not just the computer systems, but technically most of its products including iPods and Mac software. However, these high costs do have justification. Mac computers, as you would notice in Apple stores, are quite pricey compared to other computer systems because they come with a platform that is technologically advanced, virus-free, and stable.

Technologically advanced: The newer Mac systems are designed with a multi-touch technology that allows users to move and work on the items on the screen by just using their fingers and touching the screen. Mac systems make computer peripherals such as the mouse or web camera a thing from the past.

Virus-free platform: It is not yet 100% fully proven that Macs do not get infected with viruses. However, unlike PC units, Macs generally do not suffer from virus attacks, crashing, and constant reformatting. With Macs, you also do not have to worry whether an Internet site you are visiting is safe or not, or whether the drive you are plugging on to your system is clean or not. So, they are not just virus-free, but worry-free as well.

Stability: Do you know that you can work with your Mac OS for weeks without rebooting and it’s performance will never run down? So if you are the type of person who only goes away from the computer during “emergencies” , you will never hear your Mac computer complain.

BONUS! BONUS! These are not only the advantages of Mac systems. Fashion and innovation are also some of the things that Apple is proud of. If you want to be trendy, stylish, and popular among your cliques, then Apple computers and laptops could actually give you that stylish and elegant aura.

Why You Should Buy a PC?

Are you a PC user ever since? Then, you should know that familiarity in using a PC, its low cost, and the wide options you have in choosing for one are the top reasons why you should choose a PC rather than a Mac.

Familiarity: This should be the top reason why you are buying a PC rather than Mac, especially if you have been used to working with Windows ever since. Switching to a Mac would require extra time and effort to familiarize yourself with a new platform.

Less cost: Without a doubt, PC units are a lot less expensive than Mac systems. For the same price as that of one particular Mac system with the standard specs, you can already get a PC with much more and higher features.

Flexibility and wider options: Aside from this, you have wider options with PC than with Mac as only Apple creates the latter. With PC, your choices include Dell, HP, Asus, Toshiba, Sony, and a much more brand names, helping you easily get what you want to provide you with what you need. You have greater flexibility in choosing which PC unit suits best for you

Ultimate Decision: Mac or PC?

Buy a Mac from Apple stores if:
• You have enough budget for it;
• You have no problem with learning a new platform and getting familiar with it;
• You don’t want to deal with frequent virus scanning and reformatting; and
• You want to be stylish and fashionable when it comes to your computer system.

On the other hand, buy a PC if:
• You do not want to spend so much for a computer;
• You want to choose from wide options of computer brand names; and
• You would rather work with Windows OS as you have become so much familiar with it;

Now, it’s up to you to decide. While guides like this could only give you insights, it is still users like you who know which is the perfect computer system to use. Remember that whether you are a Mac or a PC, these advanced computers should teach you to become a better and more innovative person, instead of making you a technological slave.

Choosing the Best Headphones for Your iPod

Know which features to look for when choosing and buying the best headphones for your iPod.

Believe it or not, iPod headphones are not created equal. Depending on the brand, type, and model, different iPod headphones are designed with varying features. If you plan to buy headphones from the Apple store, it is best that you know which features to look for, so you won’t regret getting something that would destruct your listening pleasure.

Choosing the best headphones for your iPod requires you to ensure that the following features are present on the headphones:

Noise cancellation feature: An excellent pair of headphones can cancel out noise when it is worn over the ears, such that the listener would be able to hear only the songs from his iPod and not anything else from his surroundings. Though headphones with this feature may seem a little costly, it is worth to invest in such accessory that would provide you only with the best entertainment pleasure.

Woofer: Not all headphones have a woofer. It is a speaker driver designed to allow the listener to hear low-frequency sounds. Woofer provides the highest sound clarity, ensuring a concert-level experience. Now, if you’re that type of person who wants to grasp and hear every detail of the song you listen to, then go get a pair of headphones that come with a woofer feature.

Wired or Wireless? The decision whether you need to buy a wired or a wireless set of headphones is entirely up to. But, of course, you would have to consider a few factors, like what is your lifestyle like? If, for example, you lead an active lifestyle, you go to the gym often, or you play sports while you listen to your iPod, then it is best that you get a wireless pair of headphones. This way, you won’t get tangled up with its wire and may continue doing your activities while enjoying the pleasure brought by listening to your iPod.

Comfort: Nothing beats a pair of headphones that will give you not only high-quality sounds, but utmost comfort, as well. For maximum comfort, make sure to choose a pair of headphones that is light and easy to wear over the head, but at the same time, won’t quickly slip off when you move around.

Choosing the best headphones for your iPod should never be too difficult especially if you know which features to look for. Moreover, remember that it is better to spend more for higher quality than spend less for something that could barely provide you with your needs. For great headphone choices, visit Apple stores and ask for one that is compatible with your iPod model.

If you are planning to buy a laptop, here the things you need to consider and look for to be able to get the best laptop that suits you and your needs.

Battery: Choose a laptop with a long battery life so that you can maximize the use of your laptop, especially when you are traveling and there are no power outlets available. Depending on the brand and model of laptops, battery life varies from 2 to 4 hours. Also, you can always buy an extra battery for your laptop that you can use in cases of emergency.

Processor: Choose a laptop designed with a processor that uses mobile technology, allowing you to take advantage of the true essence of laptops which is portability. They are often labeled with the word “Mobile” in them. Your best bets for processors are Athlon XP Mobile and Mobile Intel Pentium 4, which run cooler and use less power.

Memory or RAM: Choose a laptop with an internal memory or RAM of NOT less than 512 MB. This should allow you download music and play digital videos. However, as a general rule, the larger the memory of your laptop, the better. Beware though that larger price comes with larger memory.

Hard Drive: If you are to use your laptop for basic applications only like web surfing and office applications, then having a hard drive of 20GB is more than enough for your programs and files. However, if you will use your laptop for storing digital photos, video files, and even databases, you may want to choose one with a larger hard drive like 40, 60, or even 120GB.

Graphics Card: Choose a laptop with a graphics card that contains a dedicated memory of 32 or 64MB. This should be very helpful for providing high-quality images, especially if you are into gaming.

Screen Size: When choosing for a laptop’s screen size, take into consideration your purpose. However, if resolution and readability of content are more important to you, then opt for a laptop with a larger screen size, say 15 to 17 inches.

Optical Drives: Make sure that your laptop is equipped with a built-in optical drive. Choose DVD-ROM over CD-ROM as the former is more advanced and greatly in use than the latter. It would be better If you can have it as a writer so you can easily store files on DVDs.

USB Ports: Choose a laptop that comes with several USB ports that will provide you an easy connection to other peripherals like mouse, external drives, and others.

Wireless Technology: Choose a laptop that is built with wireless technology, allowing you to connect to the Internet without using cables or cords.

While there are other things to consider when choosing the right laptop for you, the above are the most essential things you should look for. Laptop Buying Guide: What Type of Laptop User Are You?

Before buying a laptop, know what type of laptop user are you. Read this laptop buying guide and know exactly what you need!

Planning to buy a laptop? Before deciding which laptop are you buying, it is important to identify what type of laptop user are you first. The laptop that you’d buy should depend primarily on the purpose for which you will use it.

Are you a laptop home user? Are you a traveler and will you carry your laptop everywhere you go? Or are you an extreme gamer who would use a laptop for games? Know first what type of laptop user are you before finally choosing which laptop to buy!

Below are the various types of laptop users that might help you determine your purpose and eventually the brand and model of laptop you’re going to buy:

Home User

Laptop home users practically use their laptop for everything fun and personal – from surfing the Internet to paying the bills to browsing for pictures to watching movies to listening to music. Some would even use it to send out personal emails, chat with friends, and update online accounts especially if their office computers do not allow them.

If you are a laptop home user and will basically use your laptop for entertainment and personal goals only at home, then you would need a versatile laptop designed with a reasonably fast processor, lots of hard drive space, and a right amount of RAM. If you will be using your home laptop for a few games, as well, try to choose one with an Nvidia or ATI graphics card.

Gamer

Speaking of games, if you will be using your new laptop for gaming, make sure that it is a powerful one. The most important consideration is its graphics card; choose one that could handle the flexibility, color, and movements of your game.

Gaming laptops often come in 15- or 17-inch screens, not only because images are nice to look at with a larger size, but because they generate an ample amount of heat, more importantly. Also, since they are supposed to be use continuously by gamers, their batteries tend to drain fast. Gaming laptops are quite expensive, as well.

Student

Laptops for students are generally designed for simple web browsing and word processing only. They often come in moderate-speed processors and little memory. Their sizes are also a little smaller than the typical laptops. Often called netbook, student laptops come in size ranging from 6 to 10 inches and weight ranging from 1 to 2 kilos only, perfect for portability.

If you are a student and will not use your laptop other than keeping school files and researching on the web, then it is best to choose from the wide variety of netbooks available in the market.

Traveler

If you are not a student but portability is of utmost importance to you, then look for ultraportable laptops. Ultraportable laptops are designed slim, sleek, and lightweight, making them very easy to carry around wherever you go. What defines laptops of this type are size and weight; they often come in screens measuring 13.3 inches or less and weight measuring 1.8 kilos or less.

Be aware, though, that ultraportable laptops that are best for travelers are not as great as the other laptops type. Their small internal space can not accommodate the powerful specifications that the latter are designed with. Also, they have very limited cooling options. If you travel a lot, however, then the tradeoff will most likely be worth it!

Businessman

Business laptops are often created durable and for long-term use. They also have large memory and fair processor. However, they are not as powerful as those of for gaming that come with high-quality graphics card, as the former is expected to be used for simple office tasks only such as sending emails, editing spreadsheets, and browsing the Internet. Business or office laptops come in a wide variety of brands and models, ranging from cheap, low-end types to expensive, powerful models.

If you have already identified what type of laptop user are you, then you are ready to choose the right laptop for you! Remember that when buying a laptop from the Apple store or other computer shops, it is not always about the specs, the size, or the outside appearance; more importantly, you should also consider the purpose in which you are supposed to use your new laptop!

  4. Do not place or store your iPod in an area that is too cold or too hot. Keep it in a safe place that is under normal room temperature.
  5. Avoid getting your iPod wet. It is best not to bring it inside bathrooms or keep it with you when you go swimming.
  6. Keep your iPod away from children as they might take it as a toy and play with it.
  7. When you iPod catches dirt, simply wipe it off with a small, clean piece of cloth that is partially moist. Do not use any strong chemical such as alcohol, acetone, or the likes as they may destroy the coating and color of your iPod.
  8. When storing your iPod, make sure that nothing heavy or sharp hits it. When you keep it inside your bag, for example, place it in a separate pocket instead of mixing it along with all your other stuffs.
  9. When storing the earphones of your iPod, do not roll its cord too tightly as this may damage the quality of the sound it produces.
  10. Avoid overcharging the battery of your iPod to prolong its battery life.

It is still best to take care of your iPod and make it last as long as you can so you can save not only money and time, but effort, as well, in going through the hassles of going to an Apple store and buying a new iPod model.
